  • Description: At the age of 15, Liduina (or Lidwina) of Schiedam fell while ice skating and broke a rib. Here two women assist her in getting back up. According to her biographers, she never recovered and in fact her health worsened. She became paralyzed and bled profusely from her mouth, ears, and nose. Modern scholars believe that Liduina demonstrated symptoms of multiple sclerosis. She soon acquired a reputation as a healer and a holy woman.
